- Use a metal measuring tape for accurate measurements. Do not use flexible cloth tapes. Note down the width and length.
- Measure each window separately.
- For windows that are not square, measure the width in three places: top, middle, and bottom.

Horizontal blinds &
plates, roll-up and Roman shades
|
 |
Inside mount installation:
Width: Measure [A] where head rail will be installed.
Length: Measure [B] from top of inside casing to window sill.
Outside mount installation:
Width: Measure [C] where head rail will be installed. For maximum privacy and light control, horizontal blind and pleated shade head rails must overlap window opening at least 1 ½” on each side. Roman shades must overlap window at least 2” on each side.
Length: Measure [D] where top of head rail will be installed to the sill or floor. |

Inside mount
vs. flush inside mount
|
 |
Inside mount installation:
For this type of mount, the brackets will be installed on the inside face of your window casing, so the blind or shade will fit inside the window.
Flush inside mount installation:
The brackets are installed the same way as an inside mount. However, additional casement depth is needed so that the blind will not protrude past the window opening. |

For rod-pocket
and pole-top
|
 |
Determine width:
Measure window width [A] including casing, if any. Rod pocket items are not hung flat. They are gathered and stirred. So you’ll need extra fabric to cover your window.
Determine length:
- Measure how far down you want your window covering to go. You generally have three options when determining the length,
- Measure from the top of the rod pole to the windowsill [B]. Subtract ½” from that measurement and order that length.
- Measure from the top of the rod pole to the apron [C]. Order that length.
- Measure from the top of the rod pole to the floor [D]. Subtract ½” from that measurement and order that length.

Pinch-pleated
draperies
|
 |
To replace existing draperies:
Simply measure across the top of both panels. Order that width. Next, measure down the side of one of the panels. Order that length.
To measure for new draperies:
Determine width: You will first
need to determine your rod width.
Determine drapery length: The
rod should be positioned at least 2” to 4” above the
window so pleats are not seen from the outside. Measure for length
from where the top of the rod will be positioned to the desired
length. Most common lengths are to the windowsill [B], just below
the window trim (or apron) [C], or to the floor [D]. If using a
decorative traverse rod or pole with rings, measure from the eye
of the carrier or ring to the sill, apron or floor. Apron is normally
calculated by adding 6” to the height till the sill. |
